The Malabar Giant Squirrel (Ratufa indica) is native to India. Often mistaken for primates, it is the largest of all squirrels measuring up to 36” and sometimes called the Giant Indian squirrel or “Shekru” in Marathi and is the state animal of Maharashtra.
